The Lovibond ® Petroleum Comparator (AF650) is a 3-field instrument for visually determining the ASTM colour number for oil comparators of samples by direct comparison with coloured glass standards. It contains the 16 glass standards of the scale in a pair of discs:
In a three-part field of view, the sample and two consecutive glasses of the colour scale are viewed simultaneously, making it easier to find the optimal matching colour. For quick colour grading with predefined colour limits, the glasses can be arranged to the two adjacent colours, making it easy to see if the sample is within the tolerance range.
